ChatGPT says people have created more than 5 million Sites since the product launched roughly three months earlier. The company announced the figure in a post on X.
The count sits on a large ChatGPT user base. ChatGPT surpassed 1 billion weekly active users by July 31, 2026, according to reporting.
ChatGPT said it had shipped several Sites updates in response to user feedback, beginning with Build Together. Reporting says the feature lets multiple people work on, edit, save and publish changes to the same Site.
Separate reporting says owners can invite named people outside their workspace to view a private Site, connect their own domains and inspect a Site's connected database with ChatGPT and collaborators. It also says the time between prompting ChatGPT and deploying a Site was reduced by roughly 50%.
ChatGPT's post dates the launch to three months earlier. Reporting places the product's general-availability launch at July 9, 2026, when public Site publishing and initial custom-domain support were introduced; the later update expanded private sharing.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT and ChatGPT Sites, develops generative AI models including the GPT series. ChatGPT is its flagship product, released in November 2022. The Sites product competes with AI-native app and website builders including v0, Lovable, Replit Agent, Bolt and Base44.
The update comes as OpenAI broadens ChatGPT's uses. Go Big News reported on Sept. 11 that the company launched ChatGPT for Financial Services.
