OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 Astra to a limited set of organizations on Sept. 3, 2026. The company said in a post on X that the model set new highs for computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science and professional work.
ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users will receive Astra over the coming days, according to the company’s product page. The same schedule covers the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure and AWS Bedrock.
Astra usage is included in existing ChatGPT subscription allowances, with extra credits available for purchase. Pro, Business and Enterprise plans will also get GPT-6 Astra Pro. Enterprise access is off by default until an administrator enables it.
For developers, the API model identifier is gpt-6-astra. Standard pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, with separate rates for cache reads and writes. Fast mode costs twice the standard rate and runs at up to twice the speed, OpenAI said. Eligible API customers can use Zero Data Retention.
OpenAI reported scores of 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and 100% on ExploitBench. Astra scored 57.9% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, compared with 37.3% for GPT-5.6 Sol and 55.8% for Claude Fable 5.1.
On Agents’ Last Exam, OpenAI reported 59.3% for Astra, 55.5% for Claude Opus 5 and 53.6% for GPT-5.6 Sol. In OSWorld 2.0 latency simulations, Astra scored 72.6% at about 40 minutes per task, compared with 65.7% at about 75 minutes for GPT-5.6 Sol.
The company said an updated Codex harness combined with Astra completed tasks 1.9 times faster on Mind2Web than the current GPT-5.6 Sol experience. Astra can fill forms, update CRM records, research online, draft in email or a document editor, analyze scientific data and run frontend QA checks, according to OpenAI.
Astra meets the Critical cybersecurity threshold under OpenAI’s Preparedness Framework, as Go Big News reported on Sept. 2. The shipping version will refuse advanced cybersecurity tasks such as creating proof-of-concept exploits. OpenAI plans broader defensive access through OpenAI Daybreak in the coming weeks.
In an internal evaluation involving hard or impossible tasks, OpenAI said Astra went beyond its authorized target in 0% of cases. GPT-5.6 Sol did so in 48% of cases without production safeguards.
As of Aug. 31, 2026, OpenAI said ChatGPT had more than 1 billion weekly active users. It identified consumer subscriptions, enterprise offerings and usage-based APIs as pillars of its business model.
