Appwrite launched Appwrite 2.0 on Product Hunt on September 16, reaching No. 2 that day. Its launch page showed 240 upvotes and 27 comments.
The company’s official X account said it was already No. 2 on Product Hunt on launch day and invited users to ask questions about Appwrite 2.0. The Product Hunt page lists the release as No. 2 of the day.
The version is built around a new engine, a rebuilt Console and expanded database options. Appwrite said the release is intended to reject the tradeoff between convenience and portability in backend-as-a-service platforms.
In an August 31 blog post, founder and CEO Eldad Fux described the changes as a new foundation for apps. The release adds an S3 API, an OAuth 2.1 server, and organization-level Domains and Firewall.
Appwrite said its new Hyperloop B engine replaces Swoole’s worker model with coroutine scheduling. The company said the change delivers seven times higher throughput with six times lower memory usage.
Appwrite 2.0 also adds five database types: native PostgreSQL, native MySQL, VectorsDB for embeddings, DocumentsDB for schemaless JSON, and relational databases.
Fux founded Appwrite in 2019. The remote-first company describes its platform as open-source backend infrastructure for authentication, databases, storage and serverless functions, with messaging, hosting and realtime capabilities for developers and AI agents.
Appwrite raised $27 million in a Series A round in April 2022, led by Tiger Global Management. It competes in the backend-as-a-service market with Google Firebase, Supabase and Nhost.
