# Isar Aerospace delivers first customer satellites to orbit

[Isar Aerospace](https://isaraerospace.com) said on 6 September 2026 that its Spectrum rocket had delivered the company’s first customer satellites to orbit. The mission lifted off at 10:12 p.m. CEST on 5 September from the company’s launch complex at Andøya Space in Norway.

Spectrum reached orbit about seven minutes after liftoff, Ars Technica reported. Isar Aerospace said the flight completed stage separation, second-stage ignition, transfer-orbit injection, a circularization burn and payload release. At least one CubeSat had contacted ground teams, and the company was working with customers to confirm the status of the remaining satellites.

The company said it became the first commercial space company from Europe to put satellites into orbit. The Guardian described Spectrum as the first commercial rocket to reach orbit from continental Europe. Euronews reported that Isar Aerospace was also the first provider to meet the orbital-launch requirement of ESA’s European Launcher Challenge, which requires an orbital launch before 2027.

The mission carried CyBEEsat from TU Berlin, TriSat-S from the University of Maribor, Platform 6 from EnduroSat, FramSat-1 from NTNU and SpaceTeamSat1 from the TU Wien Space Team. It also carried Let It Go, an experiment from Dcubed that Ars Technica described as non-separating. The payloads were selected through the German Space Agency at DLR’s Microlauncher Competition, funded through ESA Boost!.

[Spectrum](https://isaraerospace.com/spectrum) is a two-stage rocket measuring 28 metres tall and 2 metres across. It is rated to carry 1,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit or 700 kilograms to sun-synchronous orbit. Its nine first-stage engines and single second-stage engine use liquid oxygen and propane.

The qualification mission was Spectrum’s second flight and its first with payloads. Its first test flight ended about 30 seconds after liftoff from Andøya on 30 March 2025. Isar Aerospace’s investigation found that an unintended vent-valve opening led to a loss of attitude control. That flight carried no customer payloads.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered near Munich, Isar Aerospace has more than 400 employees across five international locations. It signed a €270 million Series D round in June 2026 and an ESA European Launcher Challenge contract worth approximately €200 million in August.

As of June, the company’s launch manifest extended through 2028. Spectrum vehicles 3 through 7 are in production, while a 40,000-square-metre facility is intended to support annual production of up to 40 rockets. Isar Aerospace is also constructing a launch complex in Nova Scotia, Canada.
