The phone uses Huawei's Kirin 9050 Pro processor and HarmonyOS 7. Its Chinese product page lists a starting price of 19,999 yuan, or about US$2,980. In the post, Huawei described the Kirin 9050 Pro as the world's first chip with LogicFolding architecture based on the τ Scaling Law. According to TechNode, Huawei had gone six years without introducing a new Kirin chip at a flagship product launch. South China Morning Post reported that Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei's consumer business group, called it the company's "most powerful Kirin chip ever." The newspaper said the chip is intended to improve performance while reducing reliance on advanced foreign semiconductor equipment. Huawei's product site says the Mate XT 2 is the first phone to carry the Kirin 9050 Pro. The company said overall device performance is 42 percent higher than the Mate XTs, based on laboratory tests comparing a HarmonyOS 7 Mate XT 2 with a HarmonyOS 5.1 Mate XTs. TechNode, citing Huawei, reported that the chip uses two-layer vertical stacking to increase transistor density from 155 million to 238 million transistors per square millimeter. Huawei said the chip's peak single-core performance rises 24 percent over the previous generation, with multi-core performance up 52 percent. Official specifications list a 6.5-inch cover display and a 10.2-inch inner display when fully unfolded. The phone is 12.3 millimeters thick when folded and as thin as 3.5 millimeters when unfolded. It weighs about 299 grams, including the battery. The Mate XT 2 has a 5,600 mAh typical battery, 66-watt wired charging, 50-watt wireless charging and IP58 and IP59 dust and water ratings. Huawei lists 16 GB of RAM, with storage configurations ranging from 256 GB to 2 TB. A Lingdun hardware privacy display is offered on the 1 TB configuration. Huawei said HarmonyOS 7 can run three windows at once on the unfolded display. TechNode reported that the Mate XT 2 will go on sale on Sept. 12, with a dedicated bundle that includes a stylus available from Sept. 23.
