# Flyover Country rebuild adds airplane-window AR

[Flyover Country](https://flyovercountry.app) released version 3.0.0 on August 30, describing it in App Store release notes as a complete rebuild. Creator Shane Loeffler also said in a post on X that the augmented-reality mode was the most notable addition.

The app is an offline flight guide that identifies geological, ecological and human-made features visible from airplane windows. It is designed to function offline at cruising altitude.

Version 3.0.0 adds a 3D globe, augmented-reality labels and curated points about terrain and history along a route. It also lets users save maps and articles offline and includes a redesigned interface.

According to the [App Store release notes](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flyover-country/id1059886913?platform=ipad) for version 3.0.4, the app's “Live” augmented reality mode “now projects roads, map labels, and satellite imagery onto your camera screen, so you can align the view perfectly with what you're seeing out the window.”

Flyover Country is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision, and requires iOS 16.4 or later. It is published under Flyover Country LLC, is free to download and has a 4.1 out of 5 rating from 311 ratings on Apple’s App Store.

The app originated at the University of Minnesota with National Science Foundation support and was created by Loeffler and Amy Myrbo. Loeffler describes himself as an Earth scientist, software developer and cartographer, and lists his Flyover Country role as concept, design, development and funding.
