# Defileo open-sources YOINK, a one-key local capture tool

Defileo has open-sourced YOINK, a one-key capture tool that saves what a user is viewing, the creator said in a post on X. Defileo said the project’s GitHub repository reached 51 stars within three hours; the post’s engagement metadata showed 30,121 views.

Defileo announced the tool while urging followers to delete Obsidian, writing that it “was never a second brain, it was a very organized graveyard.”

YOINK is written in Python 3.10+ and stores notes as plain markdown files in a local folder compatible with Obsidian. The project has no external dependencies and is released under the MIT license.

The [YOINK repository](https://github.com/DefiLeoo/YOINK) describes the product as a note system that attaches testable forecasts to notes. Users can add a frontmatter claim and settlement date, then run `yoink settle` to check it against a file, CSV, EVM blockchain query or manual entry and track calibration and accuracy over time.

When the repository was checked later, it showed 146 stars and nine forks.

Obsidian was started in 2020 by Erica Xu, is co-founded with CTO Shida Li and is led by CEO Steph Ango. Its official about page says it is “100% supported by our users, not investors.” Notion, another major note-taking and “second brain” product, said it passed 100 million users in August 2024, roughly a decade after its 2013 founding.
