# Anchor says Card-Y issued more than 15,000 virtual cards

> Anchor says its customer Card-Y issued more than 15,000 virtual cards after launching cross-border payment access for Egyptians. The company says more than 2,000 of those cards are active.

[Anchor](https://getanchor.co) says [Card-Y](https://www.card-y.com/) has issued more than 15,000 virtual cards after using Anchor Cards to help Egyptians make cross-border payments. Anchor made the claim in a post on X.

According to Anchor’s case study, the Central Bank of Egypt banned debit-card use for international payments in October 2023 to preserve the country’s USD reserves. Card-Y launched its virtual-card product in May 2024 after a couple of weeks of testing and integration, Anchor said.

Anchor’s case study reports that Card-Y has issued 15,000 virtual cards in total and that more than 2,000 are active. It also says Card-Y users can move from signup to a first purchase in less than 20 minutes.

Card-Y describes its virtual and local cards as connected to multi-currency global accounts in USD and EUR, with EGP top-ups for instant online payments. Anchor said Card-Y chose its platform because it was among only two or three global platforms willing to issue cards directly into Egypt.

Anchor is an embedded-finance and banking-as-a-service platform for African businesses and was part of Y Combinator’s Summer 2022 batch. The company says it was founded in 2022 by CEO Segun Adeyemi, Olamide Sobowale and Gbekeloluwa Olufotebi, and is headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria.

In September 2023, Anchor raised a $2.4 million seed round led by Justin Kan’s Goat Capital, with participation from FoundersX, Rebel Fund, Y Combinator and Byld Ventures. The round brought its total funding to roughly $3.4 million at the time.
