# Revolut tests Pay with Smile at London cafés

[Revolut](https://www.revolut.com) is piloting its Register terminal at three Kiss the Hippo cafés in London from September 24 to 26. The trial covers locations in Bloomsbury, Chelsea and Soho.

Revolut Business said in a September 24 post on X that it had unveiled Register at Kiss the Hippo locations around London the previous day. The company said attendees were among the first to use the terminal's built-in Pay with Smile feature.

Customers who opt in through the Revolut app look at the Register terminal to pay. The facial-recognition system checks their face against identity data from Revolut signup, then triggers an account-to-account transfer when it finds a match, according to NewsHub. Customers can withdraw consent at any time, and the cafés reportedly do not store facial data.

If recognition fails, customers can use traditional payment methods. Pay with Smile transactions carry a 0% processing fee during the trial, NewsHub reported.

Alex Codina of Revolut Business said the company is "replacing outdated, fragmented tills with a hyper-efficient checkout experience," according to NewsHub. Kiss the Hippo's Alex Damgaci expects the feature to reach all 12 cafés later in 2026 after the pilot.

Revolut was founded in 2015 by Nik Storonsky and is headquartered in London. Fortune reported in July that the company operates in 40 countries and has 75 million global customers. Go Big News previously reported that Revolut filed for a Finnish banking licence in August.
