# Qupital raises $300M for trade-finance expansion

[Qupital](https://qupital.com) raised $300 million in a Series C round led by M Capital, with asset-backed securities commitments from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) and Quester Capital.

The Hong Kong-headquartered company said in a [September 13 release](https://en.prnasia.com/releases/apac/qupital-raises-300m-in-series-c-led-by-m-capital-and-new-mufg-abs-financing-eyes-overseas-markets-and-ipo-547662.shtml) that it will use the proceeds to expand financing capabilities across China, the US, Japan and Southeast Asia. It also plans to scale its proprietary AI risk engine, expand its loan pool and accelerate AI research and development.

The company provides cross-border e-commerce trade finance. It said it has processed more than $9.5 billion in cumulative loans.

Co-Founder and President Andy Chan said double-digit year-on-year growth in cross-border e-commerce is creating a trillion-dollar liquidity gap. Co-Founder and CEO Winston Wong said turning live transaction data into immediate trade credit has become a baseline for the business.

Qupital was founded in Hong Kong in March 2016 by Chan and Wong. Before the Series C, its funding history included a $2 million seed round in May 2017, a $15 million Series A in March 2019 and a $150 million Series B in November 2021.

The company said it is exploring capital-market options including an IPO, further fundraising and strategic acquisition. It did not disclose a valuation or a timetable for an IPO or overseas expansion.
